Portrait of Master Cheung

Master Ricky Cheung, a caring, cheerful and responsible father, devoted most of his life in mahjong manufacturing industry until the ‘Fuk Hing Lung’ Mahjong manufacturing factory’ could not be kept afloat with the economic turmoil after 2000s in Hong Kong.

Having almost 40 years hand-carved mahjong tile experience, he started learning hand-carved and hand-painted tiles from his parents when he was in secondary school. When the industry began to die off, and traditional mahjong tile industry was not spared from the march to modernize, Master Cheung strove to reinvent and improved the quality of the product by working hard with his brother. He start to explore and introduce machine support for his factory in 2000s. Although the business was still not be able to sustain in 2009 due to the severe competition from mainland China, the spirit of the mahjong craftsmanship stays alive.

After another ten-year of working hard to support the whole family, Cheung has finally retired in 2018 and is now fully engaged with artistic and creative mahjong craftmanship development inspired by her daughter with a mission to preserve Hong Kong culture. By making use of his talents and creativity, we look forward to more interesting work between two generations of collaborations!

We aim to preserve Hong Kong traditional craftsmanship by coming with creative art.
